Concrete Floor Paint

Getting Ready to Use Concrete Floor Paint

You have decided that you want to finally do something about that dismal basement but you don’t know how to prepare the area so you can use the concrete floor paint you just bought. The very first thing you must do is to make sure that there is no dampness. If the floor is damp you will not able to use your concrete floor paint to cover it

Then you need to thoroughly clean the floor of all dust by vacuuming or sweeping. Make sure that there is no grease or oil on the floor as well. If you want your concrete floor paint to adhere properly you must not only clean it, but you must make sure it is not smooth or the paint will not stick. A good method for doing this is by sand blasting. Once complete you will have to vacuum again.

Now that its been cleaned there may be repairs that need to be done before using the concrete floor paint. All cracks or gaps must be filled in. Leave at least twenty-four hours after making the repairs before attempting to paint. Check to see if the repairs are dry, only then can you finally get on with rolling on your paint. You’ll need a primer first. One coat should be sufficient.  Again you must wait for it to dry before you can put on the color you have been waiting for.

When applying the concrete floor paint it is best to use either a roller or, if you have it, a paint compressor. Make sure that the concrete floor paint you choose is a latex paint. There is no point in doing this on the cheap. It’s a big project and you don’t want to have to repeat it too soon. Two coats will be necessary to properly cover the floor and make sure the color you have chosen comes through the way you like it. When this is dry a good sealer would be beneficial in keeping your basement floor from having to be repainted soon.
